My Breeder’s Cup Experience

A couple of weeks ago my dad asked me if I wanted to go to the Breeder’s Cup, knowing very well that I love going to all horse events possible!

Luckily this year the Breeder’s Cup was hosted in San Diego, CA, where I’m from, at the Del Mar Race Track. Now, of course, my answer was a resounding yes although I was confused as to how my dad managed to get tickets!

Through a business partner (Bank of America, thank you so much) we were offered seats on Friday, November 3rd in a Sky Box overlooking the whole track right next to the finish line. This room was filled with food, drinks, and many willing to bet large amounts of money on who they thought were winners in the races of the day.

This was my dad’s second time ever going to horse races and for some reason, he always manages to bet correctly and now he thinks he’s some professional (joking of course). He made somewhere around $160 while I only made about $30, so much for my horse person abilities kicking in!

My dad and I arrived at 9 a.m. which was perfect timing because it secured us a spot right next to the Sky Box window to enjoy the races and meals. The first post wasn’t until 11:25 a.m. but it gave us plenty of time to study up on who we were going to bet on for the day. Several hours and plates of food later we were worn out and began to head home. I don’t recall ever seeing a turf race in person before so it was great to witness that many times. This Breeder’s Cup was full of surprises with many upsets occurring in almost every race! It was a great day to spend with my dad, one that I’ll never forget!
